Baby was out with Papa for a walk.
When their friends they met, it was "Oh!" and "Ah!"
"What a darling she is!" "Can the little kid talk?"
"Well—no; I don't think that she can," said Papa,
"Though she seems to understand."
She was only two, but she understood,
And her small, rosy mouth was made up to cry—
But no! she would talk—she would show that she could.
And, "Mamma," and "pretty," and "laly"—"by-by,"
She said with a wave of her hand!
