.mw-parser-output .wst-uppercase{text-transform:uppercase}She hath awaken’d from the dream of life,
And issued from her darkened chamber forth
Into the cloudless day. O wherefore weep?
In throbbing expectation and delight,
Which leaves no place for hope, she goes to meet
Him whom, unseen, she loved—for He had been
The Life-spring of her soul—her Light, her Joy,
Her Consolation—all ’twixt God and her.
He came and called her in a vision sweet;
And she, with blissful haste, the call obeyed.
Bright forms, upon the sunny eastern hill,
Beckon’d her onwards, and she heard the tones
Of far-off music—how could she delay?
One kiss—one parting tear—and then she sped
To her appointed place. O weep no more!
Lonely pilgrim of the night,
Sphered watcher, mildly bright,
Whither art thou journeying?
Ever since Creation’s morn,
Saw thee glide forth, Chaos-born,
Ladie of the mystic horn,
Is it true that thou hast been
Treading that unvarying path,
Round and round this globe of ours;
Heightening every charm it hath,
With looks of light and silver showers?
Path to us unseen—unknown;
Trodden by thyself alone—
Printless on the liquid ether;
Leaving far, to left and right,
Wandering worlds and spheres of light,
Lov’d of one, but stay’d by neither.
Sleepless moon! athwart the sky,
Do thy mission—onward hie!
Onward to the end of time.
Thou art more than something fair,
Voyaging aimless through the air,
Thou hast meaning high and rare,
Writ in characters sublime!
Onward! for thy work’s divine;
God who made thee sail and shine
Twice three thousand years ago,
Sees thee work His will to-day;
Naught but He can bid thee stay;
O, if man could thus obey,
Heaven again should dwell below.
Freely to the earth thou givest
Of the light which thou receivest,
Unrequited, shining still;
Like a kind and equal mother,
Blessing none above another,
Blessing all, both good and ill.
Even though her shade enfold thee,
So that we can not behold thee,
Yet we know that thou art there;
Type of that mysterious grace,
Sin can hide, but not efface,
To the heart, its dwelling-place!
Seen or unseen, ever near.
Holy—God, thy servants name thee,
Holy—all thy works proclaim thee,
And in speechless act adore:
Man, whom thou hast lov’d and blest,
Far, how far beyond the rest—
Made him earth’s most honor’d guest—
Teach him, Lord, to love thee more!

A cloud-eclipsed star,
A fair child that hath lost its way
In the wild woods afar.
A spirit disenthroned—
Yet a bright spirit still,
Fallen, alas! —but not disowned,
Such was the Maker’s will.
One shade amid the shadows
That sunbeam throws aslant;
Dim lie the golden meadows—
That accustomed haunt.
And the spirit’s world is rife
With strange and shadowy things;
Self-wrought, and lit to seeming life
By the flashing of its wings.
And there its devious way
It wandereth—unforgot;
For nought of God’s so far can stray,
As, the place where he is not.
