The reckoned span recedes to Past,
Hence ne’er to reappear:
Twelve fleeted months become at last
A bygone yesteryear.
The clock has struck; the year is gone,
Foreclosed by blast and chime .mw-parser-output .nowrap,.mw-parser-output .nowrap a:before,.mw-parser-output .nowrap .selflink:before{white-space:nowrap}— —
And rolling waves go tumbling on,
The restless waves of Time.
The New Year came—a billow-link
Upon a boundless sea;
Whence it has swelled it too shall sink
In vast Eternity.
And while you stop at New Year’s dawn
To read this simple rhyme
The rolling waves go tumbling on,
Those restless waves of Time.
